General Principles

Nova Geodesia publishes Research Articles, Review Articles, Notes, and Editorials.

The contribution type must be selected correctly during submission and is clearly identified in the published article.

Research Articles, Review Articles, and Notes are subject to external peer review.

Editorials are evaluated editorially and do not normally undergo external peer review. Where an Editorial presents original research data or substantive scientific claims, external review may be arranged when appropriate.

The Editor-in-Chief has overall responsibility for the editorial process and makes all final decisions regarding the acceptance or rejection of manuscripts.

The journal may reclassify a submission into a more appropriate contribution type after consultation with the authors.

Research Articles

Research Articles present original and substantial scientific work relevant to the journal’s Focus and Scope.

They should normally include:

  • a clearly defined research problem, objective, research question, or hypothesis;
  • an appropriate study design and methodology;
  • original data, analyses, or methodological developments;
  • clearly presented results;
  • a critical discussion in relation to relevant literature;
  • conclusions supported by the evidence;
  • all required authorship, funding, conflict-of-interest, ethical, and data-availability statements.

Research Articles generally follow the structure:

  • Title;
  • Abstract;
  • Keywords;
  • Introduction;
  • Materials and Methods;
  • Results;
  • Discussion;
  • Conclusions;
  • Authors’ Contributions;
  • Ethical Approval and Informed Consent, where applicable;
  • Acknowledgements;
  • Funding;
  • Conflict of Interests;
  • Data Availability Statement;
  • Use of Generative AI, where applicable;
  • References.

Results and Discussion may be combined where justified by the nature of the study.

Review Articles

Review Articles provide a critical, balanced, and scientifically grounded synthesis of published research on a clearly defined topic relevant to the journal.

A Review Article should:

  • explain the significance and scope of the topic;
  • describe the literature-selection or review approach;
  • synthesize and critically evaluate the available evidence;
  • identify inconsistencies, limitations, and knowledge gaps;
  • offer scientifically justified perspectives or future research directions;
  • use current, relevant, and authoritative literature.

Systematic reviews should describe their search strategy, eligibility criteria, selection process, and analytical approach transparently. Where appropriate, authors should follow a relevant reporting guideline.

Narrative reviews must go beyond a descriptive list of publications and provide a critical and original synthesis.

Review Articles may be invited by the editors or submitted directly by authors. An invitation does not guarantee acceptance.

Notes

Notes present original and scientifically relevant findings in a more concise form than a standard Research Article.

They may be appropriate for:

  • focused experimental or observational findings;
  • concise methodological or technical developments;
  • validation studies;
  • short datasets or case studies with broader scientific relevance;
  • preliminary findings that are sufficiently supported and scientifically valuable;
  • results that do not require the length of a full Research Article.

A Note must still include:

  • a clear scientific objective;
  • sufficient methodological information;
  • original and reliable results;
  • appropriate analysis and interpretation;
  • conclusions supported by the evidence;
  • all relevant ethical and transparency statements.

A shorter format does not imply lower scientific, methodological, or ethical standards.

Editorials

Editorials introduce a journal issue or address a matter of scientific, professional, institutional, or editorial relevance to the journal’s community.

Editorials may include:

  • introductory pages for a regular or special issue;
  • statements or reflections from the Editor-in-Chief or Editorial Team;
  • discussion of developments relevant to the journal or its scientific fields;
  • information concerning the journal’s scientific direction, policies, or publishing activities;
  • invited commentary on an important scientific or professional matter.

Editorials should be concise, clearly identified, professionally written, and supported by relevant evidence where appropriate.

Editorials that do not present original research are evaluated editorially and do not normally undergo external peer review.

Where an Editorial includes original research data, substantial scientific analysis, or claims requiring independent assessment, external peer review may be arranged.

Editorials are normally commissioned, prepared, or approved in advance by the Editor-in-Chief. Unsolicited Editorial submissions are not normally considered without prior editorial agreement.

General Submission Requirements

All submitted contributions must:

  • fall within the journal’s Focus and Scope;
  • comply with the Author Guidelines;
  • meet appropriate scientific and ethical standards;
  • be written in clear and appropriate English;
  • include accurate metadata and all mandatory submission files;
  • disclose authorship contributions, funding, and conflicts of interest;
  • include ethical approval and informed-consent information where required;
  • comply with the journal’s policies on originality, copyright, data, images, and generative AI.

Selection of a contribution type during submission does not guarantee that the manuscript will be evaluated or published under that category.

Peer Review and Editorial Decisions

Research Articles, Review Articles, and Notes are subject to external peer review.

Manuscripts selected for external peer review are normally sent to at least two independent experts. The journal seeks to obtain two or more substantive review reports whenever possible.

Reviewers provide independent expert assessments and recommendations. They do not make editorial decisions.
